The whole family of Bataan General Hospital is celebrating after they passed the 1st ISO 9001:2008 Surveillance Audit conducted by International Standards Certifications, Philippines, Inc. (ISC) last February 27, 2015. The ISO 9001:2008 certification has been awarded to BGH in March 06, 2014 wherein regular surveillance audit is necessarily done to monitor its compliance to International Standards. The said one-day surveillance audit was started with an opening meeting between the members of BGH-ISO Core team and ISC Audit team wherein Dr. Glory V. Baltazar, Medical Center Chief, presented the improvement in BGH management within a year of being ISO certified, its accomplishments and future plans. After that, the Audit team was introduced to the body which was composed of Mr. Eliseo Q. Manarez, the lead auditor together with Dr. Ricardo R. Adriano Jr., Mr. Kenneth Benedicto, Ms. Marianne Sarceno and Ms. Irene Calantog. Mr. Manarez discussed their detailed audit plan especially its objectives, scope and criteria as well as the methods to be used and the time frame of actual audit. Each member of the Audit team has assigned areas to be audited based on their specialization.
The areas that were audited by the team were the following: Top Management / Management Representative, Internal Quality Audit especially in terms of Corrective and Preventive Action (CPAR), Customer Focus, Human Resource, Purchasing, Document Control Center, Billing, Engineering, Information Technology, Out-Patient Department Animal Bite Center, Security, Medical Departments & Committees, Dietary, Radiology, Pharmacy, Nursing and Central Supply.
During the closing meeting, Mr. Manarez happily announced that BGH was able to comply with all the requirements of the International Standards and NO NON-CONFORMITY was seen during the actual audit which is very rare especially among government hospitals. Likewise, the team was impressed because of the numerous positive findings that they have seen as well as the best practices that are continuously implemented by BGH. He also said that BGH is a good role model as far as ISO implementation is concerned and he will recommend to other government hospitals to do their benchmarking in the BGH.
