WCPU article

Bataan General Hospital in cooperation with Bataan Multi-Sectoral Governance Coalition (MSGC) has successfully launched its Women and Child Protection Unit (WCPU) that will serve those women and children who experienced any form of abuse. The said launching program with a theme "Itigil ang Pang-aabuso: Proteksyon at Kaligtasan ng mga Kababaihan at Bata" was started with a motorcade along Balanga City and followed by the program proper held at BGH conference room last March 12, 2015 which is in the observance also of International Women's Month. The Medical Center Chief, Dr. Glory V. Baltazar expressed her warmest welcome to the participants for spending their precious time with BGH in the launching of WCPU wherein she emphasized that BGH has accepted the challenge of having its own WCPU as mandated in the latest Administrative Order No 2013-0011 otherwise known as the Revised Policy on the Establishment of Women and their Children Protection Units in all Government Hospitals. Likewise, Dr. Baltazar mentioned the importance of the role played by women in the society wherein she reiterated the multitasking abilities of woman like during conception, giving birth and being a mother to her children. Additionally, she talked that children, being a vulnerable member of society, should be protected from any form of abuse and exploitation and to do so; it needs the full participation of everyone especially in the government sector.

On the other hand, Dr. Sandra Hernandez, Director of Training at CPU-PGH, congratulated the BGH for having their WCPU which is the first in Bataan and she expressed her gratitude to BGH because they accepted the challenge. Furthermore, Dr. Maria Almira Kiat, head of BGH-WCPU, talked about its vision and mission, the roles and responsibilities of each government sector in protecting the welfare of women and children and also the proper referral system. Dr. Jocelyn Bongco, head of BGH-Pediatric Dept, gave the closing remarks and extended her gratitude to all the attendees of the said event. After the program, it was followed by a ribbon cutting at the BGH-WCPU which marked its official launching.

The said event was attended by different government sectors especially the Provincial Government represented by Hon. Antonio Raymundo Mayor of Orion Bataan, Engr. Joseph Brian Banzon of Multi-Sectoral Government Coalition, Atty. Gay Escalada-Clavel of the Regional Trial Court Branch 3, Police Supt. Frederick Eslava Obar of CPS-Balanga, representative from the Department of Education and Provincial Social Welfare Office, chiefs of three district hospitals, municipal health officers, municipal social workers, women's welfare public officers, presidents of different medical organizations like Philippine Obstetrical and Gynecological Society (Central Luzon), Bataan Obstetrical and Gynecological Society and Philippine Pediatric Society (Central Luzon).
